Red_CrossWant to become a Red Cross volunteer?

Red Cross volunteers respond to disasters ranging from a single family house fire that affects one family to a hurricane that affects thousands. In Maine, we respond to over 400 local disasters each year, and send a dozen or more responders to points all over the country to assist in other major disasters.

Individuals can be trained to respond in a number of positions, ranging from shelter volunteers, caseworkers, damage assessors, health services volunteers, mental health services volunteers, logistics coordinators, drivers, dispatchers, and more … and that’s just in times of disasters. In “blue sky” times, we are also looking for dispatchers, survey callers, office workers, smoke detector installers, instructors, and data entry experts. There is something for everybody.

To start your adventure as a new Red Cross, volunteer, head to: http://www.redcross.org/me/volunteer to sign up. Many of our trainings are offered online, or at locations throughout the state on a regular basis. Contact Knox County EMA or head to their Training and Exercises page to find training offered locally.
